Downgrade your DirectX to old version

At this moment, Microsoft have lauch the latest version of DirectX, DirectX 10.0. But, until this time, not much hardware supporting this DirectX. If you install Direct X 10.0 but its turn out you found problem causing by this DirectX, you can restore it to the oldest version.

DirectX can’t be uninstall or install backward. This is meaning the old DirectX version cannot be installed if the latest DirecX version already install on your pC.

However, there is a way by “cheating/fraud” DirectX through Registry. This is how:

1. Go to Registry editor
2. On Registry Editor, go to subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft|DirectX\
3. On the right window, find value “Version “4.09.00.0904″” if you using the latest DirectX from Windows Vista. ForDirectX 8.0 version, the value “Version “4.08.00.0880″”
4. Then double click on that value to edit it. In here we will do that “fraud”. Change version number with “4.07.01.0881″. This will tell DirectX installer that the installed version is DirectX 7.0. Then click OK and close the Registry Editor.

Now, you can re-install DirectX to the oldest version. Just for your information, to find out the version of your DirectX you using, go click “Star” then type “dxdiag” on the search bar. DirectX Diagnostic Tool will appear and showing you the detail information about DirecX component and criver installed to your system.
